Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola will fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 22 governorship election in Osun State.
Oyetola who currently serves as Chief of Staff to Governor Rauf Aregbesola came tops in the party’s direct primaries held yesterday with 127,017 votes .
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege announced Oyetola’s victory last night on behalf of the chairman of the 5-member electoral panel, Governor Abdul’Aziz Yari of Zamfara State.
He was trailed by the deputy speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yusuff, who got 21,975 votes .
The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,958 votes while Adelere Oriolowo polled 5,373 votes and Saka-Layonu, 2,369 votes.
The Secretary to the State government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, Senator Babajide Omoworare, and Elder Peter Babalola, pulled out of the race moments before the commencement of the process.
Adeoti hinged his action on “his resolve to abide by a resolution of the Osun West Senatorial District wing of the party dissociating itself from the exercise.”
But he said “he is still very much in the race to contest and win the governorship election come September 22, 2018.”
On his part,Omoworare said he would not “present his ward agents, mobilise his supporters or deploy resources” for the primaries “in view of obvious political realities which are beyond our control.”
He added: “this development is with the ultimate view of ensuring party cohesion and for All Progressives Congress to secure victory at the September 22nd governorship election in the state
