Anti-kidnapping squad of the Nigeria Police has killed a suspected
kidnapper in Okoyong in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State
while two other suspects escaped.
The kidnapped victim, a
woman (name withheld) was rescued.
Investigations conducted by DAILY POST revealed that one of the
suspects used the phone of the victim to contact family members with a view to
arranging for ransom.
The number was tracked and
the caller invited to a particular spot where he was shot and taken to Okoyong.
On sighting the Police and the suspect, others escaped through a bush track in
the area.
It was gathered that some
guns, charms and other items were recovered from the house while the victim was
rescued. It was also gathered that, the suspects engaged the security agents in
gun duel resulting to a serious injury on the part of the suspects.
When DAILY POST visited
the office of the anti-kidnapping squad at the cultural centre, Calabar, the
suspect was seen lifeless and the squad promised apprehending the other gang
members in the shortest possible time.
Interestingly, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) Ms Irene
Ugbo confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, saying it occurred on Friday. She
said her men will apprehend the two escaped gang members and others involved in
kidnapping in the state.
According to her,
investigation on the matter was ongoing. The PPRO told our correspondent on
phone on Saturday that, “The incident is true; our officers arrested the
suspect while others escaped. We shall get to them soon. However, the victim, a
woman has been rescued,” but declined given her identity.
