IPoB | IGP promotes late officer over attack on Ariaria police station

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has disclosed that plans have been concluded to honour late Mr Cyril Nwosu, a police officer who was killed when hoodlums attacked Ariaria Police station in Aba, Abia State, with a posthumous promotion.
This, according to him, is a deliberate effort to encourage gallantry among officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
It would be recalled that on September 14, hoodlums attacked officers in Ariaria police station, razed the station and carted away communication gadgets and pump action rifle.
The IGP disclosed this when he paid a one-day working visit to Abia state.
Idris said that the decision to give a posthumous promotion to the officer was informed by the resolve of the Force to show the value it attached to the lives and service of police officers.
According to him, the deceased who was yet to be confirmed as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) before his death, would be duly confirmed and will also be appreciated for his gallantry and zeal.
“We will give posthumous promotion to the late ASP Nwosu who died in active service to his father land,” IGP Idris reiterated.
He further announced that the police will give scholarship to the only 10 year old child left behind by the deceased from primary to university level.
The IGP therefore advised police officers to “stand by the truth and do what is glamorous for the country,” as according to him, Nigeria required police officers who are committed to service.
The IGP however, applauded the efforts of the Abia State Government for taking proactive measures to restore law and order during the recent crisis that erupted in the state.
“It is our duty to ensure that the country remains united and stronger. I believe that by the grace of God we will continue to remain united,” Idris said.
Speaking earlier, the Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu applauded the IGP and other security agencies for their prompt intervention in restoring peace in the state and the country at large.
He noted that the police had done well in averting several incidences that could have led to bloodshed in the country during the recent crisis caused by the activities of IPOB.
